What is Print!subscription?
PRINT!subscription 2010 is a new project I’m launching in the new year!
Following in the tradition of Old Masters Rembrandt and Goya and inspired by contemporary printmakers, I’m offering a subscription to my artwork for 2010. It’s a unique way to support an artist, participate in the creative process throughout the year, and get amazing original art at an affordable price, just $10 a month.
Similar to wine futures, PRINT!subscription 2010 allows me to offer you my work at far below the market price because you are buying it sight unseen. Once finished, these same works would sell for five to ten times the monthly subscription price. Because your subscription helps to cover my overhead costs, I’m able to pass along the savings.
How does it work?
Sign up and at the end of every month you’ll receive a new, original print mailed to your door. Each piece will be roughly 5 by 6 inches in size, handprinted, signed and numbered. After receiving your print, return to this blog and check out photos of the month’s print as a work in progress, from the sketch to the printshop, and I’ll discuss the inspiration, concept and technique behind the piece. It will be a unique window into the creative process, and a unique way to share and support my year in printmaking. The theme and concept of each print will vary from month to month and you can expect to receive art in a variety of techniques, from etching to woodcut to monotype.
If you’re not familiar with my work, check out the Recent Works link on the right for a sampling of recent prints and paintings. Memory has been the central theme of my work for the past several years. I’ve explored its nuanced interplay with history and the land with exterior landscapes that explore collective, historical or cultural memory as well as interior landscapes of ephemeral personal memory. Last year I completed a collaborative grant project that focused on family history and memory. In these works I examined the relationship we have to family memories, whether personal, shared as part of family lore, or imagined. While I am not sure what new work the new year will bring, they will more than likely draw up these themes of history and memory.
